Director's Note

The Crucible is a play about fear. It is a play about a young women who’s fear of death kicks into gear a dreadful momentum that when started cannot be stopped. Miller’s text was pertinent and explosive when he wrote it. The events of recent years have given this play an even greater urgency than it might otherwise hold.

It is a story about words being twisted, intentions being exploited and an exploration of what it means for the truth to be exposed. The p eludes political affiliation, instead asking us where our lines in the sand are, how we respond to positions of threat and the unrelenting danger of mob mentality. Directing this play has been a challenging, exciting process. It has brought about fascinating creative and dramaturgical questions.
